Different variants of the Pentium II and Pentium III processor have a unique "stepping value." This value must be stored in the computer's BIOS chip for your computer to operate correctly. Only a couple of values can be stored at one time, so when the BIOS is updated or the Pentium chip is upgraded, it may be necessary to update the stepping values in the BIOS. This utility should be run immediately after performing a BIOS update.
