When you try to install the deskjet 500 under windows 9x (or Me) (Start-Settings-Printers-add new printer) it looks for a file that is not on the 98SE disk, but you can request that the file be obtained from another place. I had this driver on a 95(C) PC that is currently under duress, but was able to copy it under safe mode to a floppy for installation on another machine. So presumably if you download this file and go through the install steps, it will work for you as well.
